Former Ghana Black Stars defender, John Paintsil has warned the Black Stars against targeting revenge when they come up against Luis Suarez and Uruguay.
Ghana is drawn into the same group as Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
The Black Stars will play their opening group game against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal at Stadium 974 in Doha on November 24, 2022, and then travel to the city of Al Rayyan to face Heung Min Son’s South Korea four days later, before taking on Luiz Suarez’s Uruguay in the final group game.
Following the draw which saw Ghana drawn into the same group as Uruguay, many Ghanaians have stated that it is time to revenge for what they did to the Stars at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
It is in this view that Paintsil has warned against targeting revenge when the Stars come up against Uruguay.
“When you look at the current squad apart from Andre Ayew [current Ghana captain] who was part of the 2010 squad, most of them are new and they don’t really know the rivalry between us and Uruguay.
“So going forward, it will be advisable that they won’t feel that anger because if you approach a football game with anger it could go against you,” the former Fulham right-back told Graphic Sports.
